Most people have already filed their 2017 tax return, however to the people out there who haven’t done so yet, October 15th, 2018 is the last day to file your 2017 individual tax return. Everyone remembers April 15th as an important tax day, however if you filed an extension on April 15th, you have until October 15th to file your return.
If you are expecting a refund it is no big deal to file late, other than you had the IRS hold your money longer then they needed to. But if you owe taxes you will not get charged a penalty if filed by October 15th, but you will get charged interest on the amount of taxes you owe.
As always we recommend you complete your taxes sooner than later and try to file them by April 15th. With that being said, if you get your taxes prepared professionally, you cannot expect them to file your return by April 15th if you give them your information at the beginning of April, unless you visit an H&R Block or similar business. Remember, CPA’s are extremely busy around tax season (February 1st – April 15th) and you need to make your appointments early and gather all tax items prior to your appointment.
In 2018, CFO 4 Your Biz took on more individual tax returns and we are accepting new tax clients for next year, 2018 tax returns. If you have any tax questions, give Eric a call at 402-216-0356.
